The face of this one is a small shield, with the valknut struck into the center and a ring of runes worked around the rim in a warmer gold. It hangs with a bit of weight, enough that it sits still against the chest instead of shifting around. Up close you can see the three triangles locked into each other, the way they leave no loose end.
The valknut is the knot of the slain, Odin's mark on the men who went into the fight holding nothing back. It belonged to the ones who had already made their peace with what it might cost them. That is the hard part, and it is the whole point. A man who has accepted the worst it can go gives fear nothing to grip. I make this for him. The one you cannot lean on or threaten, because he settled that account with himself a long time ago.
