Runes run the full width of the head on this one, cut deep and left dark so they stand out against the steel, with knotwork worked up the haft. It is a broad, flat hammer, wide across the face and solid through the middle. On the chain it lies flush against the chest and stays put.
Norsemen cut runes into their weapons to name them. A blade or a hammer with a name was no longer just a piece of iron lying around, it belonged to a man and it answered to him. The runes across this face spell out the hammer's own name. Putting your mark on something is the easy half. Standing behind it afterwards is the rest. I make this for the man who signs his name to his work and to his word, and does not need a second look at either.

The runes across the face are Elder Futhark, read left to right. They spell out the name of the hammer itself: MJOLNIR.
Together they name the hammer. Carved on a weapon, a name was a claim: this belongs to someone, and someone stands behind it.
