The knotwork on this one is worked in gold against the dark steel, running down the haft and out across the face of the head. It is a broad hammer with some real thickness through it, and the contrast makes the pattern read clearly at arm's length. On the chain it hangs square and stays where it sits.
A Norse knot is drawn as one unbroken line. It doubles back through itself over and over, and nowhere along it will you find a loose end to pull. Carried on the hammer, the two say something together: protection, and ties that do not come undone. I make this for the man whose word ties him to something. The one who gave it once and never had to be reminded of it after.
